For most of my life I lived in a world that had no room for creativity.
For nearly thirty years I worked in the corporate sector. My days were structured, fast and focused on decisions, responsibility and business goals. Creativity was something I admired in other people but I never believed it belonged to me.
I did not think I was creative. I certainly never imagined that one day I would become a botanical artist or create an online painting course for beginners.
Five years ago, everything changed.

How I Started Painting as a Complete Beginner
There was a difficult family situation that affected me deeply. It was a time of emotional pressure, loss and uncertainty. I needed something that would help me breathe again, something that would bring a little calm when everything around me felt unstable.
At that moment, I picked up a paintbrush for the first time in my life.
There were no expectations. I had no artistic background and no dream of becoming an artist. I simply needed something that would help me stay present.
That is how painting entered my life.
How Painting Helped Me Through Difficult Times
What happened next surprised me.
Painting became much more than a hobby. It became a quiet place where I could slow down and reconnect with myself. While I painted, my attention moved away from stress and fear and towards something simple and real: colour, water, paper and the movement of my hand.
It felt like meditation, but with purpose. I was not just sitting with difficult thoughts. I was creating something.
Little by little, painting began to restore me.
It did not change my circumstances, but it changed how I experienced them. It gave me space to breathe, to think and to find moments of peace.
At that time, I did not realise I was becoming an artist. I only knew that life felt a little lighter every time I painted.
Eventually, I understood something important.
If painting could help me through one of the hardest periods of my life, perhaps it could help other people too.
That thought never left me.
From Complete Beginner to Professional Botanical Artist
What began as a personal way to heal slowly became a serious creative journey.
I continued learning, practising and studying. I discovered botanical art and became fascinated by the quiet beauty of plants, leaves and flowers. The more I painted, the more I realised that botanical painting combines careful observation with patience, mindfulness and respect for nature.
Over time, my skills grew.
Today I am a professional botanical artist with formal training, including a Diploma in Botanical Painting from the Society of Botanical Artists. I also completed a certificate course at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh and studied privately for a year with botanical artist Simon Williams.
My paintings have been exhibited throughout the UK and internationally. Today they live in private collections across three continents.
I share this with gratitude because I remember exactly where I started.
I was a complete beginner.
I had never painted before.
I did not believe I had artistic talent.
That is why I understand beginners so well.

Why I Created an Online Painting Course for Beginners
As my own journey developed, another idea began to grow.
I noticed how many people say exactly what I used to believe.
“I can’t draw.”
“I’m not creative.”
“I don’t have artistic talent.”
I understand those words because I once said them myself.
But my experience taught me something different.
Creativity is not a gift given only to a lucky few. It is something that can be developed. Learning to paint as a beginner is not about talent. It is about curiosity, patience and giving yourself permission to try without worrying about perfection.
Painting is one of the simplest ways to reconnect with your creative side. It asks only for your attention and your willingness to begin.
That is why I decided to create an online painting course for beginners.
What You Will Learn in My Online Painting Course for Beginners
My course ‘Painting with Inessa’ is designed for people who have never painted before or who believe they are not creative.
It is not about producing perfect artworks.
It is about slowing down.
Looking more carefully.
Learning to enjoy the process rather than worrying about the result.
When I designed this beginner painting course, I thought about my own first experience with a paintbrush. I remembered how unfamiliar everything felt and how quickly that uncertainty disappeared once I allowed myself simply to explore.
That is exactly what I hope to offer others.
A gentle introduction to painting that builds confidence one step at a time.

What Painting Can Give You
Painting gave me something I never expected.
It gave me a way to cope with difficult emotions without trying to escape them.
It gave me structure when life felt uncertain.
It gave me focus when my thoughts were scattered.
It gave me quiet moments that felt meaningful.
Most importantly, it helped me reconnect with myself.
Many people find this feeling through sport, meditation or spending time in nature.
For me, it came through painting.
I believe many other people can experience the same benefits, even if they believe they have no creative ability at all.
Why Anyone Can Learn to Paint
I have enormous respect for beginners.
Beginners are open. They ask honest questions. They notice details that experienced artists sometimes overlook.
Almost everyone feels nervous before making the first brushstroke.
That is completely natural.
But something beautiful happens once people allow themselves to begin.
Fear becomes curiosity.
Pressure becomes enjoyment.
Confidence slowly grows.
I truly believe that anyone can learn to paint, regardless of age or previous experience.
I know this because I started later in life with absolutely no artistic background.
That is the kind of environment I want to create.
A place where people do not feel judged.
A place where they simply experience the joy of painting.
Why This Feels Like the Right Next Step
I continue to paint botanical subjects, exhibit my work and develop as an artist.
But today I also feel a strong desire to share what painting has given me.
Not only through finished artworks but through the experience of creating them.
Because painting is not only about producing beautiful pictures.
It is about slowing down.
Paying attention.
Finding quiet moments.
And sometimes, finding yourself again.
If I can help even one person discover that feeling, then this new chapter will be worthwhile.

A New Mission
I started painting during one of the most difficult periods of my life.
I had no idea where that first brushstroke would lead.
Today, painting has become my profession, my passion and my mission.
I believe creativity belongs to everyone.
It is never too late to discover it.
Whether you are twenty-five, fifty-five or seventy-five, you can still learn to paint.
My hope is to help people take that first step.
To pick up a brush.
To slow down.
To discover that there is far more creativity inside them than they ever imagined.
